What They Do

Every Saturday morning, Project Minnie provides the following to homeless pets and their homeless parents in Venice, CA:

  • Dog food and cat food
  • Collapsible and reusable water bowls
  • Leashes, harnesses and collars
  • Education about no-cost and low-cost spay/neuter programs, vaccinations, flea treatment and veterinary health
  • Limited vet care. We use donations to fund veterinary care

At Sunland Elementary we really care about animals. We try very hard to raise as much money as we can to help people who are passionate about giving love and care to animals around the world. Project Minnie is an organization we work with to help the homeless feed and take care of their pets. Our students raise money to donate to Project Minnie every year.

About

Project Minnie was inspired by three special individuals. First, a cat named Minnie. The other two are Clutch and Feather, who were homeless. Clutch was standing on the side of the road with a sign asking for money. His beloved Feather was by his side. The founder of Project Minnie stopped to talk to Clutch and give him a few dollars. He explained that the money wasn’t for him, it was for his dog, Feather. Although he had no home and slept in a tent, he said he didn’t need anything because he had food stamps. But, food stamps can not be used for dog food, so he needed the money to buy food for Feather. Clutch and Feather only had each other in the world and asked for so little. It made her realize that pet parents struggle to provide nutritious food to their furry companions. By providing reusable and collapsible bowls, Project Minnie give homeless dogs and cats a place besides the ground to eat on and by giving them nutritious food, they hope to help keep them healthy.
