aboutme.jpgMy name is Brian Takara and I have taught in LAUSD for 18 years, the last 15 have been here at Sunland Elementary.  Before coming to Sunland I taught at 112th St. School in Watts.  I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades but I enjoy teaching 3rd graders the most because 3rd grade is awesome!  In my classroom I am always looking for new ways to bring more technology into the class for my students to better prepare them for college.

Room 26's Play Leaders

Once some very dedicated students from our class step up into a leadership role and serve as Play Leaders for the Kindergarten students. Our Play Leaders leave class early to eat and then as soon as the Kindergartners hit the cafeteria line our Play Leaders are busy at work!  In the cafeteria area our Play Leaders are helping the Kindergartners get their lunches, helping them open milk cartons and bags, and assisting with the cleaning up of spills. The Play Leaders then walk the Kindergartners to the Kindergarten playground and through playing games, they help teach and reinforce important skills such as sharing, teamwork, and kindness with the Kindergarten students.  3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who are Play Leaders are some of the most outstanding Sunland School citizens.  It's no wonder that Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade students can't wait to reach the upper grades so that they too, can become Play Leaders!
