Greetings Sunland Lions!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year.

I am the proud principal of Sunland Elementary School. I am eager to begin my second year as your leader, and looking forward to working with everyone to continue moving our school towards greatness.

I want to thank our outstanding teachers, staff members, parents, Woodcraft Rangers, Youth Services, Boys Scouts, YMCA, Sunland community, Department of Water and Power, Complex Project Manager, Instructional Director, and the Los Angeles Unified School District for your commitment towards our school and consistent support. We have a strong partnership to provide a quality academic experience for our students, and all of you played a role in helping us accomplish one or more of the goals listed below this past year:

•New interior and exterior LED lights throughout our school

•New drapes in the auditorium

•Partner with JPL, CSUN and Caltech to train Sunland teachers on the new science standards

•Upgrade our Computer Lab with new desks and computers

•Host our first Community Open House, local newspaper writes about its success

•Provide Robotics program for students after school

•Start our Makerspace Lab

•Update our Sunland Website

•Start a Twitter Sunland account

•Increase our SBAC state scores in both English Language Arts and Math

Thank you to all stakeholders for helping us achieve these goals.

Here are our goals for 2017-2018 school year:

•Continue to partner with JPL, CSUN and Caltech to train teachers on the science standards

•Use Eureka Math, new math program, in grades 3-5

•Implement Benchmark Advance, new English Language Arts program, in all classrooms

•Beautify Sunland Elementary School

•Add murals to exterior parts of our school

•Restripe play areas on the playground

•Purchase new lunch tables and benches

•Continue to deliver a quality education to develop critical thinkers and problem solvers

•Further increase our SBAC state scores in both English Language Arts and Math

I am excited about the 2017-2018 school year. Together, we will accomplish our new goals, the sky is the limit!

Here’s to a great year together,

Eduardo Carrillo
